- DNSSEC
DNSSEC: A security extension for the DNS protocol that uses digital signatures to ensure the authenticity of DNS data and protect it from tampering and spoofing, thereby preventing attacks such as DNS poisoning.
- Documentary Evidence
Documentary Evidence: The recorded, tangible, or digital information that can be used as evidence in an investigation or audit. This could include written contracts, emails, log files, or transaction records. In the context of digital systems, this often means logs, system messages, and other digitally recorded actions that could serve as proof of an event or activity.
- Domain
Domain: In the context of networking and the Internet, a domain refers to a sphere of knowledge identified by a name. Specifically, in terms of domain names, it's part of a network address that identifies it as belonging to a particular domain. This is used to control internet addresses under the DNS (Domain Name System), which translates domain names to IP addresses. Domains also refer to specific areas of control or influence, such as a security domain in information security or a collision domain in networking.
- Domain Name System (DNS)
Domain Name System (DNS): A hierarchical and decentralized naming system for computers, services, or other resources connected to the Internet or a private network. It translates more readily memorized domain names to the numerical IP addresses needed for the purpose of locating and identifying computer services and devices with the underlying network protocols.
- Domain Name System (DNS) Exfiltration
Domain Name System (DNS) Exfiltration: DNS exfiltration is a cyberattack method where attackers use the DNS protocol to stealthily move data from a compromised network to their own systems. Because DNS requests are common in network traffic and often allowed out of networks, attackers can covertly encode data within these requests, bypassing many security measures that do not scrutinize DNS traffic for such anomalies.
- Domain Name System (DNS) Poisoning
Domain Name System (DNS) Poisoning: A type of security exploit where an attacker redirects a DNS query to a different destination, typically a malicious website, by contaminating the DNS cache data of a DNS resolver with incorrect IP address entries. The attacker's goal is to control the mapping of domain names to IP addresses to lead users astray, often for phishing or other malicious purposes.
