Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA): A US law enacted in 1998 to address the challenges of copyright management in the digital age. The DMCA implements two 1996 World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) treaties and provides a legal framework for copyright holders to control how their content is distributed online. It also limits the liability of online service providers for copyright infringement by their users, provided they respond to notices of alleged infringement appropriately. Furthermore, the DMCA prohibits the circumvention of digital rights management (DRM) technologies and outlines a notice-and-takedown process for removing infringing material from the Internet.
