Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4): The fourth version of the Internet Protocol (IP), which identifies devices on a network via an addressing system. It uses 32-bit addresses, which limits the address space to 4.3 billion addresses. Despite the development of a newer protocol, IPv6, IPv4 remains widely deployed and used, making the understanding and management of its features and limitations essential in maintaining and securing internet and network operations.
