Multiplexer: A device that combines multiple analog or digital input signals into one output line. The selection of specific input is controlled by a set of selection lines. In networks, multiplexers are used to reduce the number of required transmission channels, thus improving efficiency by enabling data from different sources to travel along the same pathway.
