SOCKS: A protocol that facilitates the routing of network packets between clients and servers through a proxy server. This protocol establishes a TCP connection that can transmit any kind of data securely, providing a layer of protection between the user and the internet. SOCKS is used where more granular control at the application layer of the network is needed, like in cases of circumventing IP-based restrictions or maintaining anonymity online.
