Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6): The most recent version of the Internet Protocol, which provides an identification and location system for computers on networks and routes traffic across the internet. IPv6 was developed to deal with the long-anticipated problem of IPv4 address exhaustion, as it uses 128-bit addresses, allowing for a vastly increased number of unique addresses compared to IPv4. IPv6 allows for more efficient packet routing and enhanced security as well.
