- Plain Text or Plaintext
Plaintext: Unencrypted or unformatted text that can be easily read and understood by humans. It is often used in cryptography to refer to data in its original, readable form before encryption. Examples include a plain text email message or a plain text document.
- Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle
Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle: A continuous improvement process that is used to identify and solve problems and to improve the effectiveness of a system or process. The PDCA cycle consists of four steps - plan, do, check, and act. In the plan step, a problem is identified, and a solution is developed. In the do step, the solution is implemented and tested. In the check step, the results of the solution are evaluated, and any necessary adjustments are made. In the act step, the solution is refined and implemented on a larger scale. For example, a company may use the PDCA cycle to improve its cybersecurity by identifying potential vulnerabilities, implementing solutions to address those vulnerabilities, and continually monitoring and improving its security systems.
- Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA)
Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA): The Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle, also known as the Deming Wheel, is a management method used for the control and continuous improvement of processes and products. It is a fundamental principle of quality management where planning initiates change, execution implements the plan, checking measures new outcomes against expected results, and acting involves implementing successful changes broadly. In cybersecurity, PDCA can be applied to improve information security management processes.
- Platform as a Service (PaaS)
Platform as a Service (PaaS): A cloud computing service providing a platform that enables users to develop, test, and deploy applications without managing the underlying infrastructure. PaaS offers a scalable and flexible environment for application development, commonly used to streamline workflows in software development. Examples include Amazon Web Services Elastic Beanstalk, Google App Engine, and Microsoft Azure.
- Point-Of-Sale (POS) systems
Point-Of-Sale (POS) systems: Electronic systems that are used to process transactions at retail stores, restaurants, and other businesses. They are used in retail and hospitality to facilitate sales, capture customer information, and manage inventory. Examples include cash registers, credit card terminals, and mobile point-of-sale devices.
- Point-to-point
Point-to-point: A communication link established between two specific devices to facilitate exclusive data transfer between them. This mode of communication is widely employed in networks to ensure that data can travel from one fixed location to another without being interrupted or accessed by unauthorized entities. It is often used in telecommunications and computing, often forming the basis for more complex network topologies.
