- Sensitivity label
Sensitivity label: A tag or identifier assigned to data that indicates its level of sensitivity and dictates how it should be handled, distributed, and stored. These labels, such as 'confidential', 'public', 'internal', or 'top secret', enable organizations to classify data based on its value or potential impact if compromised. Implementing sensitivity labels helps ensure the appropriate level of security and access controls are applied, facilitating compliance with privacy and data protection regulations.
- Separation of Duties (SoD)
Separation of Duties (SoD): A risk management strategy designed to prevent fraud and error by dividing critical tasks and functions among multiple individuals or teams. The goal of SoD is to ensure that no single person can complete a high-risk task alone, thereby reducing the potential for malicious activity or unintentional errors. SoD is often implemented in financial systems, but it's also used in various other contexts where error or fraud could have significant implications.
- Sequence check
Sequence check: A procedural control used to ensure that data is being processed in the intended order, usually by assigning a unique sequential identifier to each data item. In the context of data transmissions, it can be used to detect errors, duplicates, or missing data packets by verifying that the received data is in the correct sequence. If a data item arrives out of order or an identifier is skipped, it triggers an error that indicates a potential issue with the transmission.
- Serial Line Internet Protocol (SLIP)
Serial Line Internet Protocol (SLIP): An older, simple protocol used for transmitting Internet Protocol (IP) packets over serial connections, typically telephone lines. It was widely used for dial-up internet access before the more advanced Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) became prevalent. SLIP lacks many features found in newer protocols, such as error detection and compression, but its simplicity made it easy to implement in scenarios where higher-performance alternatives were not needed.
- Server
Server: A computer or device that provides services, resources, or data to other computers or devices on a network. It is used in networking to host applications, websites, databases, and other services. Examples include web servers, database servers, and file servers.
- Server authentication
Server authentication: The process of verifying the identity of a server or device before allowing access to its services or resources. It is used in network security to prevent unauthorized access and ensure the integrity of communications. Examples include using passwords, certificates, or tokens for server authentication.
