- Service provider
Service provider: A company or organization that offers a specific service to customers, often over a network. Services can range from internet access, cloud-based software applications, and data storage to digital security solutions. As part of their offerings, service providers are often responsible for the maintenance, security, and availability of the services they provide, with details typically laid out in service level agreements (SLAs).
- Service Set Identifier (SSID)
Service Set Identifier (SSID): A unique identifier assigned to a wireless local area network (WLAN). Essentially, it is the network name that wireless devices use to establish and maintain a connection. The SSID is broadcast by a wireless access point (such as a router) and detected by wireless devices seeking to join the network. Implementing appropriate SSID settings, such as disabling SSID broadcasting or changing the default SSID, can help enhance the security of a wireless network.
- Service Set Identifier (SSID) Broadcast
Service Set Identifier (SSID) Broadcast: The transmission of the SSID by a wireless access point to allow devices to discover and connect to the network. This feature is used in wireless networking to facilitate the connection of devices to the network. For example, enabling SSID broadcast simplifies connecting personal devices to a home network, while disabling it on a public hotspot can enhance security by making the network less visible.
- Service user
Service user: A service user is an individual or entity that utilizes a particular service provided by an organization or system. In the context of a network or software service, the term can refer to the end-users who interact with the service, whether they're employees within an organization, customers, or other stakeholders. It's crucial to manage service users' access rights and credentials appropriately to ensure they can perform necessary tasks while maintaining system security.
- Servlet
Servlet: A Java-based program that runs on a web server and dynamically generates content for web pages. It is used in web development to create interactive and dynamic web applications. Examples include a servlet that retrieves data from a database and displays it on a web page or a servlet that processes form submissions.
- Session
Session: A sequence of related interactions between a user and a computer system. It is used to track and manage user activity within a network or application. For example, a user may start a session when logging into a website, and the session will end when the user logs out or the session times out.
