- Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR)
Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR): A discipline that combines traditional digital forensics (the recovery and investigation of material found in digital devices) with incident response (the process of handling and responding to security incidents or attacks). The goal is to uncover the details of an incident, remediate it, and determine how to prevent similar events in the future.
- Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA)
Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA): A US law enacted in 1998 to address the challenges of copyright management in the digital age. The DMCA implements two 1996 World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) treaties and provides a legal framework for copyright holders to control how their content is distributed online. It also limits the liability of online service providers for copyright infringement by their users, provided they respond to notices of alleged infringement appropriately. Furthermore, the DMCA prohibits the circumvention of digital rights management (DRM) technologies and outlines a notice-and-takedown process for removing infringing material from the Internet.
- Digital Rights Management (DRM)
Digital Rights Management (DRM): A set of access control technologies used by publishers, copyright holders, and individuals to restrict the ways in which proprietary content can be utilized and distributed. DRM systems are designed to prevent unauthorized copying and sharing of digital media and manage the rights of users to access eBooks, music, films, software, and other digital content. These technologies can enforce limitations such as the duration of access, the devices on which content can be viewed, and the number of times content can be accessed or copied. While DRM helps protect intellectual property rights, it also raises concerns about user rights, fair use, and interoperability.
- Digital signals
Digital signals: A type of signal that is represented by discrete, separate values typically in binary format (0s and 1s). These signals are less susceptible to noise and distortion compared to their analog counterparts, ensuring a higher quality and more secure transmission of information in applications like telecommunications, computing, and data storage.
- Digital Signature
Digital Signature: A cryptographic tool used to confirm the authenticity and integrity of a message, software, or digital document. It works by associating a signature with a document using a unique private key, and anyone can verify the signature with the corresponding public key. Digital signatures are commonly used to implement electronic signatures, which can have legal significance because they also provide non-repudiation, meaning the signer cannot deny having signed the document.
- Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA)
Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA): A federal Information Processing Standard for digital signatures, which was introduced by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 1991. DSA is used for the creation of a digital signature, which can be used to authenticate the identity of the sender of a message or the signer of a document and to ensure that the original content of the message or document has not been altered. Signatures generated by DSA are unique not only to the document but also to the signer, ensuring both authenticity and non-repudiation.
