Asynchronous: Refers to processes that do not occur at the same time or do not require immediate response, allowing operations to execute independently without waiting for preceding tasks to complete. In computing, asynchronous communication is where data can be transmitted intermittently rather than in a steady stream, with the sender and receiver operating at their own pace and not simultaneously.

Asynchronous communication: A mode of communication where the parties involved do not need to interact with each other in real-time. Messages can be sent and received at different times, allowing for greater flexibility and convenience. This model is often used in email, discussion forums, and other platforms where instant response is not necessary.

Asynchronous Token Generation: A method used in security systems to generate a token, such as a one-time password (OTP), without requiring real-time communication between the token generator and the authentication server. This process facilitates the use of tokens for multifactor authentication, especially in situations where immediate connectivity is not possible.

Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM): A networking technology that splits traffic data into small fixed-sized cells, contrary to other networking technologies, which use variable-size packets. ATM provides data link layer services that run over a wide range of networks. Its small, fixed-size cells are well suited for carrying voice and video traffic, as well as data, making it advantageous for multimedia transmission.

Attack: Any action that intends to exploit vulnerabilities or disrupt the normal functioning of systems, networks, or applications. This could be initiated by individuals, groups, or even automated scripts with the aim of compromising system integrity, confidentiality, or availability, often leading to unauthorized access, data theft, or service disruption.

Attack Surface: The total area of potential vulnerabilities in a computer system or network. It is used in cybersecurity to assess the potential risks and vulnerabilities in a system or network. Examples include the open ports and services on a server, the number of users with access to a system, and the type of software installed on a system.
