- Source code
Source code: The human-readable instructions that make up a program or software. Written in a high-level programming language, source code outlines the functions, operations, and structure of a software application. It's the foundational layer that developers interact with, and thus, its quality, clarity, and security have direct implications on the functionality and security of the resulting software. Appropriate measures, such as code reviews and audits, are crucial for identifying potential vulnerabilities and ensuring the reliability of the software.
- Source code compare program
Source code compare program: A tool that compares two versions of source code to identify differences and changes between them. It is used in software development to track code changes and to facilitate code reviews. Examples include using diff tools, version control systems, and code review platforms.
- Spam
Spam: Unwanted, unsolicited digital communication, often in the form of emails, which are sent in bulk. While often merely annoying and inconvenient, spam can sometimes contain malicious links or attachments or be used in phishing attacks. It's a common method used to disseminate malware or trick individuals into divulging personal information or sensitive data. Effective spam filters and user education are vital in mitigating the risks associated with spam.
- Spanning Tree Algorithm (STA)
Spanning Tree Algorithm (STA): A mathematical process used in network communications to create a topology of interconnected switches or bridges that is loop-free, ensuring there are no circular paths through which packets can endlessly loop. This is critical for the stability and efficiency of network communications, as it eliminates the risk of broadcast storms and multiple frame transmissions that could lead to network failure.
- Spanning Tree Protocol (STP)
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP): A network protocol that ensures a loop-free network by disabling redundant links and creating a tree-like network structure. It is used in local area networks (LANs) to prevent broadcast storms and network loops. Examples include using STP to create a root bridge,
- Span Port (Mirror Port)
Span Port (Mirror Port): A feature on network switches that allows the duplication of network packets from one or more ports to a designated monitoring port, enabling network administrators to analyze traffic for various purposes, such as performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and security analysis. Tools like network analyzers or intrusion detection systems are often connected to a span port to observe network traffic without affecting the flow of data.
