- Standard
Standard: A set of rules, guidelines, or criteria used as a basis for comparison. It is used in many industries to ensure consistency and quality in products, services, and processes. Examples include technical standards for computer hardware and software, industry standards for manufacturing processes, and quality standards for customer service.
- Standup meetings
Standup meetings: Daily meetings where team members provide updates on their progress and any roadblocks they are facing. They are used to keep teams on track and communicate status. Examples of teams that may hold standup meetings include software development teams and IT support teams.
- Star topology
Star topology: A network topology in which all devices are connected to a central device, such as a hub or switch. It is commonly used in small to medium-sized networks. Examples include a home network with a router as the central device or a small office network with a switch as the central device.
- Stateful inspection
Stateful inspection: The capability of a security system to track and monitor the state of network connections traveling across it. In this context, "state" indicates the conditions of a connection at any point in its lifetime, encompassing aspects such as IP addresses, port numbers, and the sequencing information of packets. It can be used to ensure that incoming packets are legitimate responses to outgoing requests, hence providing a strong defense against unauthorized traffic.
- Stateful inspection firewall
Stateful inspection firewall: A type of firewall that monitors the state of active connections and makes decisions based on the context of the traffic. It allows or blocks traffic by understanding and remembering the state of network sessions, enhancing security by ensuring only legitimate and expected traffic is allowed.
- Stateful packet filtering
Stateful packet filtering: A method of network security in which the firewall maintains information about the state of packets in a network and uses this information to determine whether or not to allow traffic through. It is commonly used in enterprise-level network security. Examples include a stateful packet filtering firewall that tracks the state of packets in a network or a stateful packet filtering router that tracks the state of packets in a network.
