Steganography: The practice of concealing information within another piece of information. It is often used to embed secret messages in images, audio files, or other data carriers in such a way that no one except the sender and intended recipient even realizes there is a hidden message. In a security context, steganography can be used both for legitimate purposes, such as covert communication, and malicious purposes, such as hiding malware or exfiltrating data.

Storage Area Network (SAN): A high-speed, specialized network that provides block-level network access to storage. It is typically used in data centers to enhance storage devices' functionality by making them appear as locally attached devices to the operating system of a server. SANs aid in improving application availability, enhancing performance, and facilitating disaster recovery processes.

Storage object: An entity that contains both data (like a file) and metadata (information about the data). This combined entity is stored in an object-oriented storage device or system. The metadata could include details like the date of last access, data protection requirements, and more. This type of storage model is often used in cloud environments due to its scalability and ease of use.

Storage segmentation: The practice of dividing storage resources into separate segments to improve efficiency, enhance performance, and increase security. By separating data, systems can reduce the risk of unauthorized access or data corruption since each segment is isolated from the others. This practice can also help with load balancing and improve overall system performance.

Strategic planning: The systematic process of envisioning a desired future and translating this vision into defined goals or objectives and a sequence of steps to achieve them. In a security context, it could involve planning the implementation of security protocols, developing an incident response strategy, or creating a roadmap for the adoption of new security technologies. It is a crucial part of ensuring that resources are utilized effectively to enhance protection and mitigate risks.

Stream cipher: A method of encryption where each bit or byte of plaintext is combined with a pseudorandom cipher digit stream, typically using a bitwise exclusive-or (XOR) operation. This encryption method provides high speed and hardware efficiency. However, because of the linearity of the XOR operation, it is critical that the same sequence is not used twice, making key management a crucial aspect of secure stream cipher operation.
