- Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD)
Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD): A network protocol that operates at the data link layer (Layer 2) of the OSI model, which manages communication between devices in a wired network, such as Ethernet. The protocol allows devices to detect whether the shared communication channel is busy before attempting to transmit data, thus avoiding potential collisions. If a collision is detected, the devices involved will stop transmitting, wait for a random period, and then attempt to transmit again. This process continues until a successful transmission is achieved. CSMA/CD is crucial in ensuring effective communication and data integrity in networks where multiple devices are competing for bandwidth.
- Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS): A stylesheet language used for describing the presentation of a document written in a markup language. CSS is commonly used in web development to control the appearance and layout of web pages. Examples of using CSS include defining the font, color, and size of text on a webpage or setting the position and size of images and other elements on the page.
- CBC-MAC (Cipher Block Chaining Message Authentication Code)
CBC-MAC (Cipher Block Chaining Message Authentication Code): A cryptographic algorithm used to ensure data authenticity and integrity by utilizing a block cipher in cipher block chaining mode. It processes input data divided into fixed-size blocks, encrypting each block while chaining them together. The output of the final block becomes the message authentication code (MAC), which helps verify the message has not been altered during transmission.
- CCTV Surveillance
CCTV Surveillance: The use of video cameras (Closed-Circuit Television) to transmit a signal to a specific, limited set of monitors for security and monitoring purposes. It's commonly employed in public areas, businesses, and private properties to deter crime, monitor traffic, ensure public safety, and gather evidence for legal purposes. Advanced systems may include features like motion detection, night vision, and remote access. The widespread use of CCTV has implications for privacy and civil liberties, which are addressed by various regulations and laws.
- Cell
Cell: In the context of computer systems, a cell is a fundamental unit of data storage, often found in a grid within a database or a spreadsheet. Each cell is identified by its unique address, resulting from the combination of its corresponding row and column labels, and can hold a piece of data such as a text string, a number, or a formula. Proper cell management, including access controls and data encryption, is crucial to prevent unauthorized data access or manipulation, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
- Cell-level Encryption (CLE)
Cell-level Encryption (CLE): A database encryption method that encrypts individual cells, or fields, within a database table, allowing for fine-grained control over access to sensitive data. Each cell can be encrypted with a unique key, which prevents unauthorized users from reading the data while still allowing the database to perform complex queries, as the database structure remains accessible.
