Copyright is a legal right granted to the creators of original works, including various types of creative, literary, and intellectual productions. It provides the creator with exclusive rights over the use of their work for a specific period, typically the life of the author plus a fixed number of years after their death, varying by country. For corporations or works made for hire, copyright may last 95 to 120 years from the date of creation or 70 years after the author’s death in the US. Upon expiration, the work becomes part of the public domain.
